The first vintage of Manousakis was in 1997, four years after Ted Manousakis returned from Washington, D.C. to his native Crete, to plant a vineyard in the foothills of the Lefka Ori Mountains. Today, Ted's youngest daughter Alexandra, along with her husband, a Swedish-Persian chef and sommelier, Afshin Molavi, run the estate and their organic vineyards. Manousakis is more than a family winery: They farm the produce that supplies their restaurant, farm and produce olive oil from their 400-700-year-old olive trees, make sea salt for charity, run a ceramics shop and are involved in accessibility work for people with mobility issues.
Nostos is 100% Assyrtiko fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, on the lees for 4 months, without fining and only a light filtration. Nostos refers to a Greek concept of "yearning to come home," something deeply felt by Ted Manousakis after leaving Crete when he was 11 years old.
